Phantom of the Paradise Music Comments:

  • Goodbye Eddie
    Written by: Paul Williams
Performed by: "The Juicy Fruits", lead vocal Archie Hahn
    Length: 3:35
I love the song, very Sha-Na-Na. Actually Brian DePalma wanted Sha-Na-Na
for this song. It's got a great Four Seasons sound. The harmonies
are super. I don't understand the reason for the dialect on the spoken
parts but I guess it flows.

  • Faust
    Written By: Paul Williams
    Performed by: William Finley
    Length: 3:30
I like William Finley's voice in this song. There is a wonderful bridge transition
at 2:37. The piano is played very hard. It's very direct.

  • Upholstery
    Written By: Paul Williams
Performed by: "The Beach Bums", lead vocal Jeffrey Comanor
    Length: 2:54
Honestly? My favorite song on the CD. It's very Beach Boys, even down to the
point of calling the car a "woody". I hate the minor bridge, but it doesn't ruin
the song. The harmonies are great, and the early 60's guitar strum.

  • Special to Me
    Written by: Paul Williams
    Performed by: Jessica Harper
    Length: 4:43
I hate the transision at 1:17. Why is the vibraphone sound on the
keys panned hard right? Speaking of it, why does the soundman pan
everything hard one way or another?
What is this, the White Album?

  • Phantom's Theme
    Written by: Paul Williams
    Performed by: Paul Williams
    Length: 4:43
I was the adding this song to the lyrics page when I saw the planes at
The World Trade Center on TV. I can't get this song out of my head.
There is a very nice classical guitar panned hard left. But what is that
weird chord on the piano at 1:21?

  • Someone Super Like You
    Written by: Paul Williams
Performed by: The Undead, Lead vocal Harold Oblong
    Length: 4:43
Love the scream at 1:31, very Black Sabbath. I've got to say, even
the lyrics suck on this one, but it's better then the Love Boat.

  • Life at Last
    Written by: Paul Williams
    Performed by: Ray Kennedy
    Length: 2:16
2:16 seconds of crap... "Getting horny and damn frustrated..."
Great song lyrics. I figured I had to look to the early
90's for crap like this. No, I was lucky enough to find it in 1974.

  • Old Souls
    Written by: Paul Williams
    Performed by: Jessica Harper
    Length: 2:44

  • Faust
    Written by: Paul Williams
    Performed By: Paul Williams
    Length: 5:07
This version is much longer than the one performed by William Finley.
Background vocals are very high in the mix. It also has a duel guitar solo
at 3:31, panned hard left and right. It's a good song, especially for
1974. The solo guitars are very apparent throughout.

  • The Hell of It
    Written by: Paul Williams
    Performed by: Paul Williams
    Length: 3:45
Probably the most insulting song I've ever heard. "If I could live my
life half as worthlessly as you..." It sounds very much like Eddie Rabbit.
Listen to Rocky Mountain Music if you don't believe me.
Also, think this is where the lady from Weakest Link got her "Goodbye."
